Lets take this step by step.
Although the river is dinking through, find a place where it slows down, i.e. A bay or the inside of a bend or an area where the river widens.
Try your float or ledger weight in these areas initially.

But, before any technicalities.

Ask the following questions in the local tackle shop:

a. Where do others fish?
b. What type and weight of floats and ledgers do they use?
c. What bait to take?

Always seek the advice of the local tackle shop where you get your bait.

Tight lines.

Plenty of advice on places like you-tube. Best bit of advice i can give you is try and go with someone who does river fish to give you on hand advice .Rivers can be a bit dangerous so be very carefull.

Check out on you tube....Stick float a river...Tips on how to attach floats and holding back floats as they run through the river.

Ledgering. Ensure the weight or feeder can hold bottom without rolling and making a bow in the line to ensure it dosen't.

These is all very basic stuff but persevere and you will start catching. Plenty of videos and cds on river fishing so check out your local car boots. :fisher1:
